Obituary

Audrey H. Van Grouw, 84, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Brian Hofman of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Audrey Helene Van Grouw was born on September 27, 1938, on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa to John R. and Harriet (Vermeer) Vander Schaaf. She graduated from Northwestern Academy. Audrey married Ken Van Grouw on July 29, 1959, at her family home in Middleburg, Iowa. Together they raised six children.
Audrey was a homemaker and part-time student graduating from Northwestern College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1978. Audrey worked at Hope Haven and Village Northwest as she enjoyed working with people with Intellectual Disabilities. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Audrey is survived by her children, Arlan (Gail) Van Grouw of Alton, IA, David Van Grouw of Alton, IA, Kevin (Lisa Cochran) Van Grouw of Johnstown, CO, Connie (Mike) Anderson of Sequim, WA, Laura (Scott) Van Wyk of Le Mars, IA Stephen Van Grouw of Remsen, IA; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Milton (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Hardwick, MN, Herlon (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA, June (Harold) Driesen of Hull, IA, Delbert Vander Schaaf of Orange City, IA, Roger (Charlotte) Vander Schaaf of Lake Wilson, MN, Helen (Don) Statema of Hospers, IA, and Arlys Zomermaand of Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law Sharon Vander Schaaf and Eleanor Van Grouw; along with many nieces and nephews.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her brothers, Jim and Wayne Vander Schaaf; her sisters, Wilma Schelling and Henrietta Vander Broek; in-laws, Gilbert Schelling, Betty VanderSchaaf, Bud Vander Broek, Ed Zomermaand and Elda Vander Schaaf; and one grandchild, Kent Van Grouw.

Memorials may be directed to the Dreams Program at Happy Siesta Health Care Center Remsen.
