Obituary

Le Mars, Iowa – Audrey Kindwall, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021, at her home. Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Audrey Kathleen Gehrmann was born on September 26, 1939, to Auto and Marie (Eckert) Gehrmann in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant at Carson Methodist Church and lived on the family farm in Carson, Iowa. In 1957, she graduated from Carson Consolidated School. Audrey attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education in 1961.

She taught seventh grade math and science in Alta, Iowa. Audrey met Robert (Bob) Kindwall in Alta and they were married on June 1, 1963, in Carson, Iowa. The couple lived in Storm Lake, Iowa for 5 years where she worked as an itinerant teacher of students with visual impairments. In 1967, Audrey received a Master of Arts Degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Audrey and Bob moved to Charles City, Iowa in 1968 where she taught General Math II at Charles City High School.

In 1969, the couple moved to Le Mars, where their daughters Ann Marie and Patricia Lee were born. Audrey worked as in itinerant teacher of students with visual impairments at Area Education Agency 4 and Area Education Agency 12 for 21 years.

Audrey was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she played in the bell choir. She was also a member of Le Mars Friday Club and enjoyed playing in bridge clubs and Mah Jongg clubs. Audrey and Bob enjoyed their cabin near Park Rapids, Minnesota for one summer. After Bob passed away, Audrey continued to spend her summers at the cabin. She also loved to travel. She traveled to 43 US States and five continents.

Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Ann Kindwall and her husband Ryan Glanzer of Urbandale, Iowa, and Patty Kann and her husband Matt of Sioux City, Iowa; her grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Kann; sister-in-law, Nancy Friedrich and her husband Marlin of Alta, Iowa; as well as her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2002; her parents; siblings, Loren and Mildred in infancy and brother, Bryce Gehrmann; in-laws, Raymond (Barney) and Helen Kindwall; and sister-in-law, Peggy Seivert and her husband Jim.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or Bell Choir, or June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
