Obituary for Alvina C. Nuebel (Sitzmann) Alvina C. Nuebel, 100, of Le Mars passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at All Saints Parish- St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 3:00p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alvina's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Daniel Nuebel, Donald Nuebel, Ronald Nuebel, Frank Nuebel, Bernie Zelasney and Paul Schnepf.
Alvina Christina (Sitzmann) Nuebel was born August 10, 1914 on the family farm near Neptune,Iowa to Aloysius and Matilda (Ruhland) Sitzmann. She grew up in the Kingsley area and attended Elkhorn Township No 3 Country School and graduated from Kingsley High School. Alvina married Vincent S. Nuebel on January 25, 1939 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Neptune in Lincoln Township. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for several years on Bunker Hill, before moving to a farm east of Le Mars in 1943, where they farmed for 69 years. In 2006 Vincent and Alvina relocated to a condo in Le Mars where Alvina helped care for Vince until his death in 2007. In 2012 Alvina entered Park Place Estates Assisted Living.
Alvina was a member of All Saints - St Joseph Catholic Church and was a life-long member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Santa Maria Court #179 where she was Grand Regent from 1969-1970. She was also a member of Alanon and was actively involved with their special programs for nearly 44 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always had time to listen, visit and tell a good story. Alvina had many hobbies and possessed a relentless energy and passion for collecting, especially ancestral and historical information. Her real talent was in photography. She was given her first camera at the age of nineteen, by her
then boyfriend, Vince, and became hooked on photographing moments that mattered most throughout her life.
Survivors include nine children: Yvonne Reuter of Littleton, CO; Anita Beguin of Sun City, AZ; Daniel Nuebel and his wife Karen Thompson of Santa Rosa, CA; twin sons: Ronald Nuebel and his wife Connie of Northfield, MN and Donald Nuebel of Denver, CO; Kay Shimek of Apple Valley, MN; Bonnie Zelasney and her husband Bernie of Denver, CO; Connie Schnepf and her husband Paul of Deer Park, IL and Frank Nuebel and his wife Rowena Hilton of Castle Rock, CO; 27 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister in-laws: Martha (Gengler) and Agatha (Nuebel) Sitzmann of Le Mars and Dorothy (Nuebel) Crooks of Garden Grove, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Vincent; her parents; son-in-laws Bill Reuter and Daniel Shimek; 3 sisters: Monica (Dolly) Jauer, Mildred Hoss and Eta Ann (Babe) Mai; and 3 brothers: Sylvester, Vernard and Roy; and an infant daughter.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Building Fund or Gehlen Catholic Schools.
