Obituary for Berniece Mary Timmins (Flammang)

Berniece M. Timmins, 95, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Father Bradley Pelzel will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Kingsley. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday.

Berniece Mary Flammang was born on September 19, 1921 in Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Gertrude (Schuh) Flammang. She was raised on a farm near Ute and Danbury, Iowa where she attended country school. Her family moved to Kingsley, Iowa where she graduated from high school. After graduation, Berniece worked at various places in Kingsley. During WWII, she and a friend moved to California and worked as “Rosie the Riveter” to support the war effort.

On October 31, 1944, Berniece and Joseph Wyndham Timmins were united in marriage in Kingsley. Berniece then became a homemaker and cared for their four children. Along with family life, Berniece was an Avon representative.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley where she participated in the guild. Berniece enjoyed fishing, crocheting and ceramics. In earlier years, she sang with the Sweet Adelines. She supported many Catholic charities along with Heifer International.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Gerard (Jan) Timmins of Colorado Springs, CO, Patrick (Mary) Timmins of Sioux City, IA, Gale Timmins of Atlanta, GA and Sheila (Chris) Rich of Moville, IA; grandchildren, Kirsten (Goeff) Langhoffer, Aaron Timmins, David (Stacy) Timmins, Kyle (Kristy) Timmins, Barry (Charisa) Timmins, Bill (Claire) Timmins, Annie (Ben) Smalley, Ben Timmins, Emily Beisel, Carly Beisel and Samantha (Brett) Arends; great-grandchildren, Camden, Nathan, Kaylynn, Avery, Tate, Hayden, Marlon, John and Lucy; a sister-in-law, Donna Flammang of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; infant son, Mark Allen; sisters, Josephine Van Buskirk, Leona Preble, Eldora Sitzmann and Arlene Grabow; brothers, Donald, Leonard, Adolph and Kenneth Flammang.
