Merrill, Iowa – Twyla D. Nore, 93, of Merrill, passed away at home on Friday, August 5, 2016 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa. Rev. Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday August 8, 2016 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Twyla’s grandsons will be her pallbearers.
Twyla Dolores Staub was born on May 25, 1923 in Albion, Nebraska, the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Fleek) Staub. She graduated from St. Edmund (Nebraska) High School.
On June 30, 1946 Twyla and Gilbert A. Nore were united in marriage at a Lutheran Church in Albion, Nebraska. They made their first home in Albion. The family moved to Merrill, Iowa in 1952. Twyla worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the Sioux City Stockyards. She gave the market report each day on the radio. Gilbert passed away on September 2, 1984.
Twyla was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at her lake home in northern Minnesota. Twyla was a hard-working individual and liked to keep busy by quilting, gardening, canning and participating in her family’s activities.
She is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Gale (Viv) Nore of Ft. Dodge, IA, Gloria (Don) Herman of Urbandale, IA, Linda Nore of Merrill, IA, Don (Erica) Nore of Le Mars, IA and Carla (Pat) Schooley of Sioux City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and spouses, Greg Nore, Tonya Nore, Tammy (Derrick) Walker, Brad (Theresa) Herman, Matt Herman, Chris (Michelle) Groves, Jaime (David) Cole, Stephen (Jodi) Nore, Sean (Lori) Nore, Michael (Molly) Schooley, Ann (Erik) Molstad, Ryan (Caitlyn) Schooley and Tina Syed; 29 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Dalton, Makinley, Layla, Tia, Nahla, Valerie, Derrick, Lanette, Abby, Brady, Gabrielle, Paxton, Elliot, Bailey, Parker, Grace, Callum, Kennet, Grant, Collin, Natalie, Logan, Miles, Connor, Carson, Makenzie, Alexander and Adam; a brother and his wife, Harold and Bette Staub of Waterloo, NE; a brother-in-law, Robert Oakes of Waterloo, NE; a sister-in-law, Jo Staub of Albion, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert; a brother Marian “Bud” Staub; and a sister, Lois Oakes.
