Obituary for Richard Lambert "Dick" Gaul

Richard “Dick” Gaul, 74, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Parish-Saint James Church in Le Mars. Father Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Tuesday.

Richard Lambert Gaul was born on February 3, 1942 in Ashton, Iowa, one of nine children born to Fred P. and Josephine (Kolbeck) Gaul. He attended grade school in Ashton and later transferred to Gehlen Catholic School when the family moved to Le Mars, Iowa. Following from high school, Dick took a position with Stoos Body Shop.

On June 27, 1960, Dick and Janice Smith were united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Neptune, Iowa. After six years at the body shop, Dick took a route position with Wells Dairy. He would later be promoted to Supervisor of Sales and retire after 36 years of service as the Assistant Vice President of Sales in 2002.

Dick was a member of All Saints Parish, Knights of Columbus and has served on the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing was a private pilot.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Janice of Le Mars, IA; son, Mark Gaul and his wife Maxine of Orange City, IA; daughter, Teresa Pearson and her husband Mike of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Julie Fedders and her husband Matt of Le Mars, IA; grandchildren, Matt (Mallory) Gaul, Richard (Dena) Gaul, Christopher (Cassie) Pearson, Alex Pearson, Nathan Pearson, Hunter Fedders and Sophie Fedders; great-grandchildren, Harry and Hannah Gaul, Nolan Gaul, Carter, Adelynn and Nora Pearson; sisters, Ardene Hindt of Story City, IA, Betty (Ralph) Larson of Arnold, NE, Pat (Bernie) Ruppert of Madison, NE; brothers, Robert Gaul of Sioux City, IA and Paul (Pat) Gaul of Corvalis, MT; sisters-in-law, Pat Gaul of San Ramon, CA and LaVonne (Loren) Krommenhoek; a brother-in-law, Ron Smith of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom, Mick and Bill; sisters-in-law, Shirley Gaul and Ina Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Bev and Junior Kowalke; and brothers-in-law, Marion Hindt and Ray Smith.
