Obituary for Marlys Marie Hohbach (Hennings)

Marlys M. Hohbach, 82, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Unity Point Health in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Don Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.

Marlys Marie Hohbach was born on October 17, 1933 in Hartley, Iowa, the only daughter of Rudy and Irene (Frick) Hennings. She attended school in Moneta and graduated in 1951. Marlys worked in Spencer, Iowa as a dental assistant until 1955 when she was united in marriage to Garland Hohbach of Marcus, Iowa on February 27, 1955. They moved to Hartley, Iowa where they farmed from 1957 to 1969 and then returned to the family farm near Marcus. In 1991, Garland and Marlys retired and moved into Marcus.

Marlys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid and Heartland Auxiliary. She deeply loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marlys was passionate about gardening and flowers, especially her African Violets. She enjoyed watching television, baking cakes for her grandchildren's birthdays and graduations.

Marlys will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Kenny and his wife Mary of Marcus, IA Kirby and his wife Julee of Marcus, IA; a daughter, Kayla Genson and her husband Stuart of Linn Grove, IA; grandchildren, Chellene Tewes and her husband Ryan of Paullina, IA, Dustin Hohbach and his significant other, Meggan Groves of Marcus, IA, Courtney Schweitzer and her husband, Bradley of Remsen, IA; Taylor Hohbach and Chandler Hohbach of Marcus, IA; and step-grandson, Chase Hainey and his fiance, Jordan White of Denver, CO; six great-grandchildren, Treven and Brielle Tewes, Brayden Paskert, Cohen Hohbach, Quinn and Hudson Schweitzer; two brothers, Merlyn and his wife Barb of Milford, IA and Merwin and his wife Teena of Worthington, MN, and seven nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garland; and their infant son, Craig.
