Obituary for Margaret Lucille Rassel (Gengler)

Le Mars, Iowa – Margaret L. Rassel, 75, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Father Bill McCarthy will officiate with Father Paul Eisele, Father Richard Ries and Father Tim Hogan con-celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars. A Rosary will take place at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Saturday prior to Mass.

Margaret Lucille Rassel was born on October 4, 1940 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of John “Jack” and Florence (Doyle) Gengler. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Le Mars. After school she worked at Wells Blue Bunny.

On June 22, 1963, Margaret and Wayne Le Roy Rassel were united in marriage in Remsen, Iowa. They made their home in Le Mars where they started their family. Thirteen years later the family moved to acreage near Le Mars. For the past nine years, Margaret has resided at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Margaret’s family was the center of her life. They remember her great cooking and after school snacks. Margaret enjoyed gardening, canning and trips to town for Bingo.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, Wayne of Le Mars, IA; her children, Julie Rassel of Omaha, NE, John (Lois) Rassel of Akron, IA, Marvin (Lisa) Rassel of Marcus, IA, Mark (Amy) Rassel of Orange City, IA, Jason Rassel of Wall Lake, IA, Susan (significant other, Kevin Majeres) Rassel of Orange City, IA, Joe (Melissa) Rassel of Kingsley, MI and Kristi Rassel of Sioux City, IA; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Mike (Marlene) Gengler and Bill (Patsy) Gengler both of Le Mars, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Xavier; and a brother, Jack Gengler, Jr.
