Peggy Ann Brockel, 58, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Santa Barbara, California. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Janis Christensen will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Peggy was born July 25, 1957 in Minot, North Dakota to Virgil and Mary (Cummins) Brockel. She grew up a happy child, full of laughter and energy. In her younger years she was active in the Le Mars Community High School Drill Team and enjoyed outdoor sports. Peggy graduated from LCHS in 1975. She then graduated from the University of Iowa in 1979 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in dental hygiene. She remained a dedicated Hawkeye fan all her life. Peggy married and lived in Cedar Rapids, but later divorced and moved to Santa Barbara, California.

Peggy thoroughly enjoyed the Santa Barbara coastline, ocean, and myriad sea animals in the Pacific Ocean. She spent considerable time on the beaches. She also enjoyed continually following the Hawkeyes whenever they played. Peggy will be remembered as a bubbly spirit and sports fan. Her family will cherish Peggy’s spirit and hold her in their hearts forever.

She is survived by her father, Virgil Brockel of Le Mars, Iowa; her older sister, Patti of Minneapolis, Minnesota; an older brother, Brian of Atlanta, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Brockel.
