Jerry L. Kasner, 68, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Kingsley, Iowa passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Father Bradley C. Pelzel will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Kingsley with military honors conducted by Nash American Legion Post #140. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Jerry Lynn Kasner was born on February 8, 1947 in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Clarence D. and Viola (Baune) Kasner. He graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1965. After high school, Jerry went to DeVry Tech in Chicago for a year.
In 1966, Jerry went to Seattle for the Army basic and advanced infantry training. Following training, he served in the National Guard and was activated on May 13, 1968. Jerry was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado and attained the rank of corporal (E4) prior to earning his honorable discharge on December 12, 1969. Following his release from active service, Jerry returned to Kingsley, fulfilled the rest of his military commitment with the National Guard, and began farming with his father.
In 1972, Jerry and Lila Van Kley were married. They were married for 22 years and had five children. In 1976, Jerry moved to the family farm and continued farming with his father. In 1984, his father retired and Jerry took over the family farm for the next 10 years. After this, Jerry worked construction and drove truck until he retired in 2007.
Jerry was a member of Nash Post #140 of the American Legion. He has also been a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Michaels Parish Council, Kingsley Community Action Club, Beef and Pork Producers, and Iowa Corn Growers Association. From 1976-1982, Jerry competed with the Monster Mafia Arm Wrestling Association, earning both state and national titles. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, having a beer with his friends, and family gatherings.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Scott and Colleen Kasner of Pecatonica, IL, Shannelle Kasner of Marcus, IA, Wendy and Chris Labadie of Papillion, NE, Shawna and Dave Hannam of Omaha, NE, Donn and Erin Kasner of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Kayla Hart, Koryn Kasner, Kaleb Kasner, Kristyn Kasner, Dakota Kasner, Ryleigh Kasner, Michael Labadie, Justin Labadie, Braedon Haggin, Coleton Haggin, Logan Hannam, Kamryn Kasner, Jackson Kasner, Keegan Kasner; and a sister, Jean and Jerry Pedersen of Anthon, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
