Obituary for Irene M. Worden (Langland)

Marcus, Iowa – Irene M. Worden, 92, of Marcus passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Pete Petersen will officiate. Irene graciously donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School in Iowa City, Iowa.

Irene M. Worden was born February 14, 1923 to John and Myrtle (Marsh) Langland. Irene married Skip on October 6, 1946 and they had two children; Bob (Peggy) Worden of LeMars, and Donna Abitz (Michael) of Marcus. Donna and her husband recently moved to Marcus to spend time with Irene.

Irene was a homemaker and an active volunteer at the Heartland Care Center for several years. She also was a Peer Volunteer visiting elderly people in the community. She enjoyed both positions and made many friends through these two organizations. Irene and Skip traveled to all of our country’s states, not including Hawaii, as well as Germany, Jamaica, and the Island of St. Croix and St. Thomas.

Irene is survived by her two children, Bob (Peggy) Worden of LeMars, Donna Abitz (Michael) of Marcus; five grandchildren, Scott, Tony, Tracy, Tim, and Alicia; six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Sidney, Faith, Chloe, Austin, and Emily; one granddaughter-in-law, Petita; two grandsons-in-law, Curt and Brent as well as one sister Linda and brother Phillip.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sherwood (Skip) Worden, and brother Donald Langland.
