Larry A. Saxen, 59, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 following a motor vehicle accident near Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Michael Hulinsky will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral service.
Larry Alan Saxen was born on December 27, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa to Lawrence and Beulah (Zupp) Saxen. He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1974. Following high school, Larry took a position in the meat department at Randall’s Grocery in Cherokee. He later transferred to the Randall’s store in Le Mars. After the grocery store closed in Le Mars, Larry went to work in the sanitation department at Wells Dairy (now Dean Foods). He retired from Deans in April of this year with over 20 years of service.
Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending various rallies throughout the country. In earlier years he liked to fish, camp and canoe. He was an avid collector and liked to sell and trade on Ebay.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shane Saxen of Le Mars, IA; a step-daughter, Beth Strickland; a sister, Linda Watson and her husband Terry of Green Mountain, Iowa; a nephew, Chad; a niece, Kelly; great nieces and nephews, Mackenzie, Parker, Presley, and A.J.; a close family friend and neighbor, Jim Helms of Le Mars, IA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lisa (King) Saxen; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
