Sharon L. Barrington, 72, of Le Mars passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, May 23, 2015. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Sunrise Villa Community Room, 524 Sunset Drive, Le Mars. Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion.
Sharon Lee Barrington was born on May 31, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Harold Louis and Maxine (Woods) Barrington. Her mother passed away when Sharon was three. She and her father remained in Omaha and Sharon graduated from North High School. She furthered her education at Front Range Community College in Denver, Colorado and Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sharon enlisted in the United States Army in 1969. She began her military career as a cook. She earned the Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (twice). Throughout her career she was stationed at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Fort Lee, Virginia and Okinawa, Japan. Sharon attained the rank of Sergeant First Class when she earned her Honorable Discharge in 1978. She enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard, Active Duty, as an administrative specialist. She attained the rank of E-7 before earning her Honorable Discharge in 1989.
Sharon also worked in other fields including telemarketing, secretarial, sales associate and cashier, admission clerk, word processing, and was a volunteer senior companion. Sharon was very handy and mechanical. She enjoyed fixing things and was passionate about her vehicles. She was a lover of animals, especially horses. Sharon appreciated the outdoors and yard and farm work. Her friends remember her as outspoken, strong in her beliefs and not afraid of a challenge. She also possessed a kind heart and cared deeply for the persons in her life.
She will be lovingly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
