Obituary for Arnold B. Rolfes

Arnold B. Rolfes, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at All Saint’s Parish-St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Father Jim Tigges will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. There will be Rosary at 4:00 p.m., the family will be present from 4-8 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday. Honorary Pallbearers are Brad Schelling, Marsha Kastman, Amy Vos, Karie Aeikens, Angie Stellingwerf, Jay Rolfes, Kyla Rolfes, Judd Rolfes, Alyssa Rolfes, and Nicole Rolfes. Pallbearers will be Brian Schelling, Ross Schelling, Jon Gengler, Ben Rolfes, Tony Rolfes and Austin Rolfes.

Arnold B. Rolfes was born on June 23, 1926 in Le Mars, Iowa to Bernard and Caroline (Ruether) Rolfes. He attended school in Le Mars and later assisted his family. On August 21, 1950, Arnold and Mary A. Didier were united in marriage at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They lived in Le Mars until 1976 when they moved to Maurice, Iowa. They were blessed with six children.

Arnold drove for Harms’ Trucking for several years. He later worked at Randall’s Super Value Grocery and Wells Dairy in the fresh milk department. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Arnold served on the Maurice City Council. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Arnold loved to visit with people and made friends everywhere he went.

Arnold will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Denny Rolfes of Le Mars, IA, Sharon Schelling and her husband Robert of Sioux Center, IA, Doug Rolfes and his wife Jane of Clarkdale, AZ, Mary Gengler of Pocahontas, IA, Dave Rolfes and his wife Cindy of Le Mars, IA and Jack Rolfes and his wife Bev of Orange City, IA; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sister Dorothy Rolfes of Dubuque, IA; a brother, Lawrence Rolfes of Le Mars, IA; sisters-in-law, Ann Rolfes, Betty Rolfes and Colleen Rolfes all of Le Mars, IA, Barb Pottebaum of Alton, IA and Catherine Twombley of Ankeny, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary on June 22, 2006; a grandson, Michael David Rolfes; brothers, Elmer (Hilda), Andy, Bernard, Leonard and Lester (Phyllis); a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Joyce Didier.
