Obituary for Sarrah Ruth Watson (Kennimer)

Sarrah Ruth  Watson (Kennimer)
Sarrah Ruth Watson, 77, of Le Mars went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Le Mars Bible Church. Pastor Fred Gums will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Township Cemetery, rural Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday.

Sarrah Ruth Watson was born on January 4, 1938 in Wood County, Texas, the daughter of Elmer S. and Vinnie V. (McAllister) Kennimer. She attended grade school in Hooks, Texas and later graduated from high school in New Boston, Texas. At the age of 9, Sarrah was baptized at the First Baptist Church in New Boston, Texas where she received the Lord as her savior. She went on to attend Draughon’s Business College in Dallas, Texas. In earlier years, she worked as a cashier in a local drug store and at Texas Instruments.

On August 6, 1955, Sarrah and Kenneth Alexander were married at New Boston, Texas. To this union three sons were born; Stephen, Keith and Scott. Sarrah worked at Racher Pierce Stock Brokers in Dallas before deciding to stay home to raise her boys.

Sarrah married Robert J. Watson at Dallas, Texas on July 8, 1967. Together they had a son, Bill and daughter, Kathryn. She and Robert owned and operated Big Dude’s Restaurant in Mesquite, Texas. In 1974, the family moved to Le Mars to the Watson Family home, owned by them since 1920. Sarrah remained at home to care for the children while Robert worked as a truck driver. He passed away on May 16, 1989.

While living in Texas, Sarrah was active with the Missionary Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas and the Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Dallas. She is currently a member of the Le Mars Bible Church. Sarah taught Sunday School, participated in Ladies’ Bible Study and led the worship music at various churches. Over the years, She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, Friday Club and the Federated Women’s Club. Her hobbies include reading, quilting and crafts.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Stephen and Sara Alexander of Hawkins, TX, Keith Alexander of Le Mars, IA, Scott and Ruth Alexander of Le Mars, IA, Bill and Shari Watson of Malvern, IA and Kathryn Watson Short and her husband Richard of Indian Trails, NC; 20 grandchildren, Robert, Cody, Anita, Nick, Sam, Sara, Heather, Holly, Seth, Cortney, Crystal, Joey, Cece, Ani, Gabri, Mari, Zahra, Storm, Ty and Laila; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Kennimer of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth and Robert; a sister and her husband, Velma Jean and Billy Cummons; and a brother, R.C. Kennimer.
