Marcus, Iowa – E. Marjorie McIntire, 89, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Liz Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Emily Marjorie Struve was born on July 16, 1925 in Rochester, Minnesota, the only child of William and Amilia (Voelker) Struve. She was raised on a farm and often told of the hard work she and her parents performed. Marj graduated from Marcus High School.
On July 19, 1950 Marj and Eldred Wayne McIntire were united in marriage at Elk Point, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm north of Marcus. In the early years of their marriage, Marj worked as a telephone operator and did census work for the government. She was also a homemaker and assisted Eldred with farming.
Marj was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was active in Altar Guild, Sewing Circle and Ladies’ Aid. In her spare time she crocheted, gardened and golfed. She loved animals of all kinds, especially her cats. She planted many trees in her backyard and always enjoyed visiting with others.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Mildred Wheeler of Colorado Springs, CO and Barbara Prescott and her husband Ron of Marcus, IA; grandchildren, Roxanne (John) Lauman of Marcus, IA, Rhonda (Jim) Kayser of Le Mars, IA, Billy (Megan) Prescott of Spencer, IA and Dennis (Trista) Wheeler of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Sam VanderVegte, Maddie Lauman, Paul J. Lauman, Sean Kayser, Spencer Kayser, Seth Kayser, Andy Prescott, Noah Prescott, Grant Prescott, Ava Prescott, and Brody Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldred; a son, William; and two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Denise.
