Obituary for Mary Frances Weinreich (Werthman)

Mary Frances Weinreich (Werthman)
Mary F. Weinreich, 78, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church prior to Mass.

Mary was born March 15, 1936, in Cherokee, the daughter of Ted and Etta (Timmins) Werthman. She grew up in Cherokee, attending Immaculate Conception.
On Nov. 26, 1955, she married Bryce Weinreich of Pierson. They spent their life raising a family on a farm east of Kingsley. She was first and foremost a MOM and a GMA. Her other jobs included most recently a courier at United Bank of Iowa, Mother Mary at Scootch’s and Lil’ Audrey’s Den, Co-Owner and operator of M&M Upholstery, switchboard operator at the telephone company, and an aide at the Cherokee Mental Health Facility.
She was a devout member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church – she was always was willing to add a helping hand – takeouts for the yearly Church Bizarre comes to mind. Her dear friends (aka the Widow Ladies) spent many a night enjoying the local eateries in town. She always provided a HOME and guidance to anyone who needed – that includes both people and animals. There were many calves, lambs, and cats that found a warm home on the radiator in the dining room. There wasn’t a task that she wouldn’t attempt – that includes beautician, seamstress, upholster, crafter, nurse, recipe clipper, cook, baker, canner, gardener, child care provider, entertainer, shopper, fisherman, swim & ball coach (under the old oak tree). Her cooking was well known to many – a few of our favorites included beef tips, fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, and ice box dessert (otherwise known as Patience Dessert). One of her greatest accomplishments in the past 6 months was her sister Elaine and her entering their quilts in the Clay County Fair and both receiving blue ribbons – we still saw a little sister rivalry between the two of them.
Her greatest enjoyment, however, came from her family: Her kids; Bryan “Barney” Weinreich of Corning, Danny Weinreich of Kingsley and his fiancé, Sherri (Riemenschneider), Barb and her husband, Tony Gunter of Le Mars, Dawn and her husband, Randy Plendl of Kingsley and Kristi Mogensen and her significant other, Kirk Hall of Le Mars; a special bond with Mike and Jenny Linton of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; a sister Elaine Nurse of Sheldon, Iowa, a brother Bob Werthman and his wife Jan of Cherokee, a sister-in law Carol (Werthman) and Marvin Peterson of Cherokee, a brother Wayne Werthman of Aurora, Colorado and a brother Don Werthman and his wife Joyce of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Dale Werthman of Cherokee), sister-in-law (Joan Werthman of Cherokee), and brother-in-law (Ken Nurse of Spencer).
