Sonni K. Cosby, 39, of Le Mars passed away Friday October 24, 2014, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Peter Rosenkvist will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28 at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and will continue until the service.
Sonni K. Thompson was born on July 19, 1975 in Primghar, Iowa to Terry and Pat (Elgersma) Thompson. She attended South O’Brien High School, graduating in 1994. She furthered her education by attending the Le Mars Beauty College. After graduation, Sonni made her home in Sioux City where she worked at various beauty parlors.
In 2002, Sonni moved to Le Mars and operated a beauty salon and a daycare from her home so she could be close to her girls. She also taught a year of TK at Gehlen Catholic Schools. Sonni’s family was the center of her life. She loved to cook and bake for them and anyone else that needed it. She was very artistic and excelled at creating crafts, jewelry and scarfs. Sonni taught art classes at the Le Mars Arts Center and starred in a play at the Postal Playhouse. She appreciated all types of music and liked to visit art museums. She was constantly snapping photos of her family and her surroundings. She even found time to run 5k marathons with her daughter Jenna.
She will be dearly missed by her four children, Jacquelyn Rose, Josephine Raylyn, Jennica Raven and Boston Parker; a significant other, Myron Daniels of Le Mars, IA; her mother and step-father, Pat and Ed Hedinger of Paullina, IA; father and his wife, Terry and Kris Thompson of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Wendy Swanson of Primghar, IA and Jennifer Enger of Marcus, IA; an uncle, Les Elgersma of Le Mars, IA; close family friends, Janet McDonald of Primghar, IA and Kathy and Paul Schwader of Le Mars, IA; and the family cat, Bell.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
