Obituary for Eugene "Buddy" Fischer

Eugene “Buddy” Fischer, 87, of Le Mars passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at The Abbey of Le Mars. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Remsen Community Cemetery.

Eugene Ellsworth “Buddy” Fischer was born on April 16, 1927 in Le Mars, Iowa to Edward and Mary (Ressen) Fischer. He attended country school near his home. Earlier in his life Buddy lived in Illinois where he worked at a bowling alley and other occupations. He returned to Iowa and worked as a hired hand for area farmers.

Buddy enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. He played horseshoes and rummy. He was an animal lover and a fan of John Deere tractors. Buddy moved to The Abbey of Le Mars on December 20, 2002. While living at The Abbey he fed the squirrels, played Bingo and watched westerns. Buddy made many friends with the staff and residents and he considered them as family.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Fischer of Le Mars, IA; nieces and nephews, Bethene (Tom) Ross of Akron, IA, Ronald Fischer, Tom (Bette) Fischer and Gary (Sharon) Fischer all of Hinton, IA, David (Helen) Fischer of Le Mars, IA, Roger (Bunny) Vroman of Rock Island, IL, Ken Vroman of Atlanta, GA, Carol Nicholson of Bettendorf, IA and Tim Neighbors of Tingley, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie Vroman and Irene Neighbors; brothers, William and John; sister-in-law, Lydia Fischer; brothers-in-law, Andy Vroman and Bob Neighbors.
