Steve J. “Bubbles” Boever, 64, of Hartley, Iowa, formerly of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a brief illness. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Steve Joseph Boever was born on March 28, 1950 in Le Mars, Iowa to John P. and Geraldine (Dickson) Boever. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1969. He also took a year of drafting classes at Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City.
After college, Steve returned to Marcus and worked as a painter for Bob Hagey. In 1978, he moved to Brookings, South Dakota and painted with the maintenance department at South Dakota State University. On July 5, 1980, Steve and Julie Carney were united in marriage at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus.
In 1990, the family moved to Hartley, Iowa and opened Steve’s Bar and Grill. In his spare time, Steve was an avid woodworker and made numerous gifts for his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease people. Steve was a proud grandpa. His favorite time was spent with his grandson Wyatt in the woodshop and with Katelyn during her visits.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Julie; a daughter and her husband, Sara and Kyle Brigham; son, Mike Boever; grandchildren, Katelyn and Wyatt Brigham all of Hartley, IA; brothers and sisters, John and Dorothy Boever of Dell Rapids, SD, Kathleen and Jerry Galles of Ardmore, OK, Gail and Karen Boever of Battlefield, MO, Sherri Willis of Fresco, TX, Tim and Kathy Boever of Blooming Prairie, MN, Julie and Pete Mundell of Corpus Christi, TX, DeAnna and Jim Beck of Sutherland, IA, and Mary and Art Ewoldt of Story City, IA; a sister-in-law, Carol Boever of Remsen, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Loretta Carney; an infant grandson, Tatum Joseph Boever; an infant sister, Mary Boever; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Larson; brothers, Norbert “Nubs” Boever and Richard “Dick” Boever.
