Frances Jean Dawson, 77, of Pierson passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, Iowa. Burial will follow at Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Grace United Methodist Church with the family present from 6-8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Frances Jean Dawson was born on January 21, 1937 in Pierson, Iowa to Earl and Muriel (Klingensmith) Winslow. She graduated from Pierson High School in 1955. Following her education, Jean worked as a waitress along with some secretarial work. On September 21, 1958 Jean and Delton Dawson were united in marriage. They made their home in Correctionville. In 2011 she retired from Sedgewick-Brennan Abstract Co. in Sioux City following 13 years of service. Jean then moved to Pierson before becoming a resident at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in February of 2013.
Jean enjoyed crocheting, baking, and watching sports on TV. She also liked to sing and play the piano. Attending church and her children’s and grandchildren’s events were very important. Jean also loved all animals of all kinds, especially cats.
She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Karen Gokey and her husband Jamie of Pensacola, FL, Karlene Miller of Correctionville, IA, Robert Dawson and his wife Linda of Hoffman Estates, IL and Richard Dawson and his special friend Amy Potgieter of Rocklin, CA; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Ashlee) Boothby of Spencer, IA, Katelynn (Tyler) Blasdel of Cambridge, England, Kelli (Zachary) Bremer of Barksdale AFB, LA, Alana, Sean and Briana Dawson of Hoffman Estates, IL, Quinn and Jackson Dawson of Rocklin, CA; and a sister, Marcia McCall of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delton on February 11, 2002; a son-in-law, Steven Miller; a sister, Gertrude Walker; a brother, John Winslow; a sister-in-law, Gloria Winslow; and a brother-in-law, Ivan Walker.
