Lydia Anna Fischer
Lydia A. Fischer, 94, of Hinton, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September, 25, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, Iowa. Rev. Steven Stoll will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Thursday prior to the funeral.

Lydia Anna Keuck was born on October 7, 1919 on the family farm near Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Annie (Wieck) Keuck. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville and attended country school near her home. She later helped area neighbor families with their children and housekeeping. This led her to Hinton, Iowa where she met and later married William John Fischer on February 23, 1942 in Dakota City, Nebraska.

While Bill served in the United States Army during WWII, Lydia lived with her parents near Moville. When Bill returned from the war the family made their home on a farm near Hinton. They farmed there for 38 years before moving to Merrill, Iowa in October of 1984. They also spent many winters in Texas and traveled to worldwide destinations. Bill passed away on June 6, 2001. Five years ago Lydia moved to the Oakleaf Apartments in Akron and then to the care center in May of this year.

Lydia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. She kept a diary every day of her married life. She also spent time completing puzzles, making crafts, sewing, crocheting and playing cards.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Bethene (Tom) Ross of Akron, IA, Ronald Fischer, Tom (Bette) Fischer and Gary (Sharon) Fischer all of Hinton; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Linerud of Spokane, WA and Doris Grasma of Sioux City, IA; brothers, Chris Keuck of Sioux City, IA, Ray Keuck of Sioux City, IA and LaVern Keuck of Denison, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; a son, Dale; a grandson, Scott Ross; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Fischer; and sisters, Hattie Ledgerwood, Gertrude Parkinson and Vesta Davis.
