Obituary for Tom C. Bohlke

Tom C. Bohlke, 82, of Hinton, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Father David Hemann will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Thomas Cletus Bohlke was born on November 11, 1931 in Marcus, Iowa to Cletus and Adeline (Dickson) Bohlke. He attended school in Le Mars and then began work as an apprentice carpenter. He worked for Humphrey Hansen and Fred Davenport in the early years.

On March 24, 1951 Tom and Joan Utesch were united in marriage at Luverne, Minnesota. The family made their home in Sioux City. In 1965 they took up farming. Tom also owned and operated a construction company and later worked at L and L Builders in Sioux City, before retiring.

He was member of the Le Mars Eagles Club. In his spare time he and Joan bowled and roller skated. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He loved raising cattle, his dogs, Bear and Squirt, and his farm south-east of Hinton.

He will be lovingly remembered by six children, Regina Kelley and her husband Tom of Sioux City, IA, Debra Bohlke Boyle of South Sioux City, NE, Rocky Bohlke and his wife Janet of South Sioux City, NE, Kirk Bohlke and his wife Shelly of Hinton, IA, Trever Bohlke and his wife Sherry of Sioux City, IA and Tracy Bohlke and his wife Barb of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Shawn Kelley, Heather Boyle, Shane, Travis (Kara), Barry (Melissa), Ryan (Allison), Joel (Lacy), Thomas, Kallen, Hunter, Chris, Ashley, Bryce, and Kendall Bohlke; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Beach of Le Mars, IA, Juletta Carney of Le Mars, IA, Mary Ruhland of Hawarden, IA, Connie Schlabach of Bettendorf, IA, Nancy Pearson of Le Clair, IA, Cindy Ingenthron of Sioux City, IA, Lori Shively of Boulder, CO; brothers, Mike Bohlke of Westfield, IA, Dennis Bohlke of Hawarden, IA, Rick Bohlke of Henderson, NV, Chuck Bohlke of Le Mars, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan on August 25, 2008; a grandson, Jeffrey Kelley; brothers Bob Bohlke, Ken Bohlke, Ron Bohlke, and a sister, Jean Mohrhauser.
